The purpose of this Centre is to foster an understanding of the European Renaissance in relation both to the mediaeval and to the modern period. The special, but not exclusive, emphasis of the Centre is on the Renaissance in English Literature from More to Milton; and in this field it offers three collections of books on the Renaissance in general, on the drama of Shakespeare, and on English recusant literature. It further sponsors two series of open lectures in English on Shakespeare and on Christianity and English Literature. Finally it serves as the central office for the Renaissance Institute, hosting the annual general meeting of the Institute in September. Its publication consist of two series of books, Renaissance Monographs and Renaissance Sosho, and two annual magazines, Renaissance Bulletin and Renaissance News.
