*Circulation and Reserve Services

To Borrow     FOR STUDENTS AND FACULTY
Automatic check out machines are available beside the 1F Circulation Counter of the Central Library for users to borrow books. 

To Borrow     FOR OTHERS

1. You can borrow five books for two weeks.
2. Bring the book(s) you want to borrow to our reception desk. We will put a slip in the book(s) as a “Proof of Borrowing.” Before you leave the Library, bring your book(s) to the Circulation Desk of the Central Library and ask them to de-magnetize them (The books have magnetic strips).
3. When you wish to keep your book(s) more than two weeks, you need to visit or call the Institute and borrow them again.

To Return    FOR STUDENTS AND FACULTY

1. Bring your book(s) to the Circulation Desk of the Main Library and ask them to magnetize them. You need to put a ell them you will return the book to the Institute of American and Canadian Studies. They will n orange slip in the book(s).
2. Then, bring the book(s) to the Institute.

• You are not allowed to return your book(s) to the Central Library Circulation Desk. In case you return your book(s) at the Central Circulation desk, you cannot borrow books from our Institute for a month as a penalty.
• When you return your book(s), you are requested to see our staff members.
• When you cannot return your book(s) by the due date, please give us a call and let us know.

Reserve Service

All reserve materials are located at the front counter of the American Section. They are on two-hour reserve. You may have one-hour "grace-period" (extension). You can keep one book at a time. You have to use the book in the library. In case you come to the Institute after 4:00 pm, you can check out the book; please return it by 10:00 am of the following business day. When using our reserve materials, you are requested to see our staff members.

*Attending Lectures
Our institute sponsors lectures by scholars both from Japan and abroad from time to time. Detailed information about upcoming event will be posted on this website. For questions and sign-up, please call us (at 03-3238-3908) or email us.

(The institute closes during part of the summer and winter breaks.)
